From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Narrative: N3359W had maintenance performed on the engine therefore two of the nine owners, dan pierson and randy williams were going to conduct a local VFR flight to ensure it was running o.k. after a thorough run-up they were both satisfied the engine was running good. Takeoff was normal and all engine indications were normal. On the up-wind leg at 150' AGL, the engine lost all power. The engine continued to "windmill" and a straight-ahead off airport landing was made. After stopping all fuel and electrical systems switches were secured so as to minimize the possibility of fire. The landing surface was a freshly plowed field which caused the nose landing gear to "dig-in" and collapse. Aircraft removed from the sight 11/13/97. Damage determined to be substantial therefore classified as an accident. NTSB assigned jim silliman to the case and issued number CHI98LA037 on 11/17/97. Engine run performed 12/02/97. Found adel clamp, that holds the mixture control cable housing, to be defective. NTSB notified of this and is working with msp FSDO barry johnson over this adel clamp issue. M&d will be issued.
