From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Narrative: on December 14, 1997, at 1350Z (0850 LCL) a Lockheed L-1011, N197AT registered to American trans air, flight 8449 departed from detroit metro airport to montego bay. During climb, the pilot advised ARTCC that he was diverting to Indianapolis, Indiana due to a hydraulic problem. The pilot landed at Indianapolis Indiana (ind) without further incident. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed at the time and an IFR flight plan was filed. On crew debrief they stated that the pump low pressure (lo PR) never came on. The hydraulic reservoir quantity indicator was at 1/2 fluid level when the aircraft arrived at the gate. Maintenance personnel found hydraulic fluid leaking from hydraulic service center at the hydraulic pressure transmitter on the brake supply module. The hydraulic pressure transmitter was replaced in accordance with maintenance manual 32-46-03. This incident is considered closed.
