From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Narrative: N144DD, an ATR-42, departed Peoria, IL for chicago, IL. Shortly after departure, the flight crew noted the main cargo door warning indicator illuminate and elected to return to Peoria for further inspection. During the approach segment of flight into Peoria, the flight crew placed the landing gear handle to the down position. It was then observed that the nose gear light did not illuminate to indicate that the nose gear had extended. The flight crew declared an emergency and executed a fly-by of the Peoria ATCT for the purpose of obtaining a visual confirmation from the tower operators that the nose gear was extended. N144DD then completed the confirmation from the tower operators that the nose gear was extended. N144DD then completed the landing without further incident. Subsequent inspection of the aircraft revealed chafed wiring to be the cause of the nose gear indicator light malfunction and no defects were noted upon inspection of the cargo door warning system. This incident is closed with this report.
