From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Narrative: aircraft took off at 0645 with a student. And flight instructor. After 45 mins. The student selected left fuel tank. The valve either rotated past detent or was not completely in the selected fuel tank. A/c ran out of fuel & the instructor elected to land in an open field. No damage to aircraft. No injuries were sustained. I asked the poi to discuss this incident with the chief flight instructor as well as the PIC and determine if any further action was needed.
