From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Narrative: IAL38030398; while setting long-line external load down amongst wooded area, the pilot sitting on the left seat looking out the bubble door did not notice taller tree to his right and cut off two feet from the top of a spruce tree. The pilot felt a vibration after the tree strike and subsequently set the load down in a nearby clearing and landed the helicopter. Bonding separation was experienced on four of the five blades. Sudden stoppage criteria from manufacturer was used, resulting in replacement of all main rotor blades, tail rotor drive shaft and gear box engine, and full inspection of main rotor hub.
