From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
Narrative: pilot was being line checked from Fairbanks, AK to rampart, Alaska. On approach into rampart, pilot selected approach flaps and gear down without difficulty when he attempted to increase the flaps he heard a loud pop and the aircraft started to roll to the left. Pilot made an unsuccessful attempt to retract the flaps; however, they remained asymmetrical with the flaps on the left side about 3" lower than that of the right side. Being able to control the aircraft, the pilot elected to return to Fairbanks where he declared an emergency and landed without incident. Preliminary finding: broken cable in airframe. Company has replaced all cables in flap system & will inspect all flight control cables as flap cable failure was determined to be final cause. No action against pilot. Company has replaced all of the cables in the flap system & will inspect all of the flight control cables. An m or d report will follow.
