From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Narrative: examined aircraft. Left wing minor abrasions. Exhaust pipes bent up. Sheetmetal damaged of 5 panels on belly of the fuselage. Propeller tips curled. See ASI record of conversation dated 4/10/98. See 2 attached statement of pilot dated April 7th & 10th, 1998, indicates pilot's knee inadvertently hit the landing gear lever positioning it so that when the flap knob was adjusted to return the flaps to normal also put hydraulic fluid to the landing gear. The landing gear retracted. The landing gear lever had excessive play.
