From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Engine problem indications. Tried run on landing on runway but blocked by traffic. Hit rocks landing off runway. (.4)the pilot stated that while in cruise flight he experienced a vibration/buzz sound. He set up for a precautionary, run-on landing to the nearest airport's single runway. When he realized the runway was in use, he elected to land onto an adjacent, grassy area. The left skid collided with a rock, the helicopter experienced a loss of directional control, yawed counterclockwise, and the main rotor blade severed the tailboom. (-23)pilot stated that he was hearing a high pitched whine and some vibration was felt through the control wheel. Prior to the crash he said he felt a bump (thought it was cat) and on attempting to land it started turning to right and he was not able to control the turn.
