From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Mr. Barry was the sole occupant of aircraft N7979D and stated he departed beaumounnt muni to go to bpt for a touch and go on runway 34. He was fast and landed long (about two thirds down the runway). In hindsight he feels now he should have gone around and or continued straight. He decided to abort the touch and go and or go around and believed he should just full stop and turn off the runway to the right. The exit speed was too fast and the airplane was light, skid marks reveal this. While attempting the right hand turn, excessive side loads collapsed the left main gear. The airplane slid into the overrun area hitting the REIL light box, turning the nose of the airplane toward the west, further momentum caused the airplane to shear off two taxi lights at their breakaway points. The airplane was lifted and the left main gear safetied. It was towed to an area by hanger 4. Mr. Barry was not injured. There was minor skin damage on the underside, left wingtip and flap.

As the FAA filed it
