From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) The pilot Mr. Jesse k. Douglas of houston, Texas stated that he was attempting a landing on runway 32 at the Dalton Municipal Airport. His flight originated from the hawkins county airport, (rvn) in rogersville, Tennessee. Mr. Douglas stated that he thought he may have landed "a little hard" and he felt the aircraft start to veer to the right of the center line after touchdown. He stated that he was unable to maintain control of the aircraft and that the aircraft veered off the runway to the right. The aircraft traveled through the grassy runway border at an approximate 45 degree angle to the runway and flipped over at the edge of the grassy area. The aircraft came to rest in an inverted position at the base of a small berm located approximately 50 feet from the edge of the runway. A statement from Mr. Harvey hallman, who witnessed the accident yielded information which is consistent with that given by the pilot. Mr. Hallman is the manager of the Dalton Municipal Airport. The aircraft sustained significant structural damage to the right wing strut and right wing tip. The nose cowling and tip of the vertical stabilizer sustained minor damage. The anti castering spring and chain were broken as a result of the violent shimmy which occured after impact of a hard touchdown and fast forward speed. An onsight review of the aircraft records did not reveal any suggestion of any maintenance irregularities. There were no injuries resulting from this accident.
