From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Mr. Simmons was proceeding from kmcn to kahn on a IFR flight plan under VMC daytime conditions at an altitude of 5000'MSL when he felt a severe engine vibration, noticed engine oil covering his windshield which resulted in total engine failure. He attempted to glide Milledgeville. Realizing he did not have sufficient altitude to glide eighteen (18) miles, he conducted an emergency off field landing in a "farmers field". Initial inspection of the engine reviled a cracked engine casing between the #5 and #6 cylinders. Both sets of magnetos were also severed. Engine has been returned to Continental inc. located in mobile, al for tear-down and evaluation under FAA guidance.
