From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On March 20, 1999, at approximately 9:12 MST a corporate Gulfstream, GA-690-D was enroute to mccook, NE when moderate smoke entered the cockpit. The crew employed emergency procedures and diverted the flight into Farmington, NM (fmn). A maintenance inspection was conducted at the FBO by qualified mechanics revealing a seal in the air cycle machine had failed leaking oil into the system. There were no injuries. The crew arranged transportation back to sturgeon bay, WI for the passengers on a chartered aircraft. No minimum equipment list exist under which the aircraft could be operated in its un-airworthy status. However the crew proceeded to fly the aircraft home to sturgeon bay, WI, without securing an authorization under a special airworthiness certificate.
