From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(Tty) acft was at 3,000 feet while en route when it lost oil pressure and the engine stopped, the pilot attempted to make an emergency landing in a field, the acft struck a hard object on landing, ground looped, and came to rest in a ditch, other circumstances are unknown. (-23) during cruise flight, engine lost power due to oil loss. Pilot was forced to land. During landing onto undeveloped terrain, the aircraft flipped over, zig-zagged and come to rest. Aircraft severely damaged but no injuries to pilot. Pilot reported the oil cooler rupture. (.4) the engine of the amateur built, experimental aircraft seized and stopped after the seam of the automotive-type oil cooler opened up in-flight, resulting in loss of the engine oil supply and oil starvation of the engine. The pilot attempted to make a forced landing in a field, however, the right main landing gear entered a hole and the aircraft cartwheeled.

As the FAA filed it
