From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-5) On 4-20-99, at approximately 12:00 noon local time, aircraft N8460N, a Piper PA-28-181 while taxiing for departure on runway 19 unintentionally ran into a fence. The aircraft was parked at signature aircraft parking area., which is near the end of runway 1. Air traffic control advised the pilot in command (sebastian alexander kienzle) to taxi down taxiway hotel to runway 19. The pilot inadvertenly got on a perimeter road that closely parrellels taxiway hotel. The pilot was not sure of his position as to whether he was on taxiway hotel, but was assumed by ATC that he was on taxiway hotel. When the aircraft got near a new construction area about one third the distance to runway 19, the pilot approached a construction area that was surrounded by a chain link fence. The pilot got about fifteen feet past the start of the fence before his left wing got entangled in the fence. Because the left wing was caught in the fence, the aircraft rotated to the left driving the propeller right into the fence. The pilot was from germany and held a private pilot's license. There were two occupants in the aircraft but nobody was injured. The left wing tip was damaged and the propeller blade was twisted. This incident is closed.
