From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Mr. Charles rhoades, pilot in command of N80KP, made an emergency landing at the Waterloo airport. Pilot was unable to extend the nose gear. This was a mechanical failure. The cotter pin was missing from the castellated nut of the nose gear down lock retaining bolt. The castellated nut had backed off the bolt to the end of the threads. This allowed the down lock tabs to pass during the operation of the landing cycle. This incident is considered closed with this report. Incident #ICE01990026
