From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23)On approach to runway 9 at the Winfield airpark, the r/h wing of the aircraft appears to have collided with an electrial service cable running to a barn which is located approximately 160 feet from the threshold of the runway. The aircraft proceeded to the runway threshold, and impacted inverted, with the left wing low. The aircraft went through a barded wire fence that marked the runway threshold, and came to rest in the inverted position 26 feet beyond the impact point. The pilot was fatally injured. There were no witnesses, but based on radio communications with the pilot, it was estimated that the accident went undetected for approximately two hours. It was observed 5 or 6 hours after the accident that the mixture control in the cockpit was in the idle cut-off position. After the aircraft was turned upright, it was observed that the ELT switch was in the "off" position.
