From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) On Saturday, September 18, 1999, at 1810 local time, aca flight 7329 from roc to iad aborted takeoff due to the left hand engine making two loud bangs and creating a strong vibration. The crew noted low torque on the left hand engine and the engine appeared to be windmilling. The left hand engine RPM increased and the crew heard one more loud bang with smoke coming out the top of the cowling. The crew shut the engine down and fired both both bottles. The passengers were deplaned at taxiway "d". ARFF responded and the aircraft was towed to the ramp without incident. Maintenance inspected the aircraft and found no evidence of fire. Preliminary indications are that the engine suffered an internal failure of the gearbox. The left hand engine was removed and replaced. Fire bottles and squibs were replaced. The operational check was ok. The aircraft was approved for return to service. This incident is considered closed.
