(-23) Departed madison county executive (M82) for local sight seeing flight with three passengers onboard. During attempt to land at Moontown Airport (3M5) pilot overshot landing touching down on last 500 feet of grass strip. Applied brakes and slid 375 feet (75 feet into overrun). Aircraft went airborne for 183 feet passing over drainage ditch and impacted on main landing gear, bounced 60 feet then impacted on nose gear. At this point nose gear collapsed, propeller impacted ground, and aircraft slid 57 on propeller spinner and lower engine cowl until aircraft rolled inverted. All three gear damaged, lower fuselage bent at bulkhead aft of baggage compartment. Vertical stabilizer and rudder damaged. One propeller blade bent aft. Engine suffered sudden stoppage. Both wings distorted and left wing strut bent 30 degrees upward. Both fuel cell 3/4 full. Pilot stated there was no engine failure and accident was due to bad landing. None of the occupants were injured. Private pilot certificate, medical good until 10/30/99. Total runway length 2180 feet. (.4) after landing on runway 27, during a touch and go landing, the pilot stated there was not enough runway remaining to t akeoff again. He aborted the takeoff, overran the runway, collided with a ditch, and nosed over. The wind at the Huntsville airport, located about 16 miles southwest of the accident site, 27 minutes before the accident, were from 150 degrees at 9 knots.
