From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) privacy data omitted the landing gear was cycled several times, but the nose gear remained in its wheel well. The main landing gear operated normally. The aircraft executed a landing at Newport with the nose landing gear retracted. The pilot managed to touch down on the mains, and gently lower the nose of the aircraft to the runway. Damage consisted of broken nose landing gear doors, a scuffed lower cowling, and the last six inches of the propeller tips curled back. When the aircraft's nose was lifted from the runway, the nose landing gear extended by itself with little coaxing.
