From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(.4)The pilot took off from runway 16 and lost partial engine power on initial climb. The pilot decided to return to the airport and stalled the airplane during the turn. The airplane subsequently collided with trees and then the ground off the departure end of the runway. Examination of the wreckage revealed that the airplane collided with the ground in a nose-low attitude. The airplane was destroyed. A post-accident teardown examination of the engine revealed that an exhaust valve was stuck in the open position.
