From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) On Friday, November 5, 1999 at 1341 local, united airlines flight 550 was taxiing to gate 22 after an uneventful landing at Rochester international airport. The aircraft was under the command of captain patrick j. bowman and was taxiing with the nose gear on the yellow line denoting the centerline of the taxiway. As the aircraft neared the gate area, a slight thump was felt and the flight crew thought they had run over something with a tire. After parking at the gate and securing the aircraft, a post flight walk around revealed that the right hand wing tip was heavily damaged and a long piece of metal was dangling from the wing tip. The crew learned that they had struck a truck that was parked just off the tarmac in an area of construction immediately adjacent to the taxiway. Uala maintenance crews arrived later in the day and repaired the aircraft to allow a ferry flight to a united airlines maintenance base where final repairs were accomplished. Subsequent investigation revealed that the yellow "centerline" had just been repainted on the taxiway by contractors involved in construction activities at the airport. The previous line was displaced a number of feet to prov ide clearance for construction vehicles working at the perimeter of the taxiway. This incident is being turned over to FAA airports division. Further discussion will be scheduled with the chief pilot of uala.

As the FAA filed it
