(-23) On 06/28/01, shortly after 0800 CST, Mr. Perry departed tradewind airport in Amarillo, Texas en-route to shamrock, Texas. Mr. Perry stated that at approximately 0.2 hours after take-off he experienced loss of power and a roughness in the engine. He contacted approach control at Amarillo International Airport (ama) and requested emergency clearance to land. After being granted clearance Mr. Perry executed a short final approach to runway 22 at ama, and shortly after touchdown the aircraft ran off of the side of the runway into a shallow dith. This caused minor damage to the tail cone of the aircraft. No injuries were reported. Inspection of the engine revealed an exhaust leak had melted a hole in the engine intake crossover tube. This created a major manifold leak causing the loss of engine power.
