From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Mr. Federico a checkairman for airmidwest inc. was giving Mr. Mattfeld a FAR 121.441 initial proficiency check in Durango, CO. During one of the circle to land instrument approaches Mr. Mattfeld slowed the aircraft to ref speed at 300 feet. He was advised by Mr. Federico to get no slower. At about 50 feet Mr. Mattfeld abruptly pulled the power levers to flight idle and pitched up the nose aggressively. Mr. Federico assumed the controls, applied maximum power, and shallowed out the pitch attitude. The aircraft landed hard causing some damage to the landing gear.
