From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Experimental first flight departed runway 20 at ruq, at approximately 1515 EDT on 08-09-2001. After initiating a normal departure a left turnout was executed at approximately 1250 ft AGL. Pilot induced right aileron control to stop left turn and no action from ailerons were noted. With full right aileron control deflection imputed, no aileron action was noted by the pilot. Aircraft started into a left hand spiral and pilot decided to reduce power to slow speed of aircraft. Approaching the ground, pilot induced nose up attitude to flatten out the descent and impacted the ground approximately 25 feet from a railroad embankment and bounced into the embankment turning the aircraft back into the opposite direction of flight. Pilot received lacerations on the forehead and a broken left ankle. Aircraft aileron control rod found broken behind pilot at the bellcrank.
