From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) ATC cleared delta 1521 for takeoff on dfw runway 18L just 30 seconds before clearing Continental 1487, which had just landed on runway 18R, to cross runway 18L at taxiway whiskey mike, resulting in a runway incursion incident. The delta 1521 crew saw the Continental aircraft in front of them in time to "firewall" their throttles, rotate 20 knots early, and take off, vertically clearing the Continental flight by about 100'. The delta crew's early rotation did result, however, in the tail of the aircraft striking the runway, causing minor damage to the skin on the lower tail section. Early suspicions of engine damage due to overtemp and/or overspeed proved unfounded and neither personal injury nor other aircraft damage were noted.

As the FAA filed it
