(-23) On September 5, 2001, at 2030 Alaska daylight time, a Cessna 206 float equipped airplane, N206AR, sustained substantial damage after striking a moored boat while taxiing on the kvichak river after a landing. The commercial pilot and three (3) passengers received no injuries. The lodge/guide flight was conducted under 14 CFR part 91. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed at the time of the incident, and a company flight plan was filed. Damage to the aircraft was contained to the floats, and the engine. The pilot in a statement reported that the wind conditions were gusty from 220 degrees at 25 knots with higher gusts, water conditions two-foot chop from wind against current. The setting sun conditions did cause restrictive visibility during landing and step taxi. After the aircraft struck the boat the aircraft overturned and sunk. On exiting the airplane, the pilot instructed two of the passengers who were on the surface to inflate their life vests. The pilot returned to the submerged plane and removed the last passenger.
