From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Pilot accepted a downwind landing at the Hailey-freedman memorial airport, (sun). Instead of executing a wheel landing in windy conditions, airman made a three point landing. After touching down, the airplane veered sharply to the left. Airman applied full right rudder and right brake in an attempt to control the aircraft's direction. The left wing tip struck the ground and sheared off the drop tip and damaged slightly the wing spar. Airman is an experienced tail wheel pilot, and has displayed a highly cooperative attitude with the FAA during the investigation. This is his first occurrence in a tail wheel aircraft. It cannot be ascertained if a 709 is necessary in the interest of safety.
