From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Pilot stated: this aircraft is new to him and is a kit built that he bought from the builder. This aircraft has an automotive engine installed in it. The pilot further stated that upon landing a gust of wind caught the aircraft and started to move it sideways. The pilot overcorrected and the engine response was not what he was used to. Consequently, the aircraft started a left turn and dropped on the left landing gear. The drop was hard enough for the gear to fold under the aircraft. The pilot has been counseled and has started a refresher flight training course from a school that trains in tail wheeled aircraft.

As the FAA filed it
