What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) On 10/25/01 approx. 1530-1545 aircraft N200RW attempted a landing at lee c. Fine airport (aiz). According to the witness the aircraft appeared to make a hard landing with large amount of smoke from the left hand MLG tires then the aircraft appeared to settle down towards the left wing, the aircraft at that time aborted the landing and flew off. The witness recovered from the runway at the point of the attempted landing a piece of the landing gear which at a later time was determined to be the left main landing gear actuator. The aircraft then flew to spirit of st. louis airport (sus) and landed the aircraft with the nose and r/h main landing gear in the down and locked position with the l/h main landing gear swinging aft of the gear well. Upon landing the aircraft left the runway, struck a VASI box, crossed a taxi way then came to rest in a ditch. Upon arrival at the scene there was found to be heavy structural damage to the left hand wing, wing skin, leading edge, wing tip, wrinkling of the skin shows evidence of wing spar damage. The left hand landing gear drag brace attach was broken away from attach point at wing spar. Extensive damage throughout gear well, nacelle and prop.
