What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
(-23) Pilot stated that he was returning from georgetown, CA. And in preparation for landing at the Hayward airport, CA. He entered the downtown traffic pattern, "set 18 inches and 2500 RPM", and as the speed decreased, he lowered the flaps one notch, and turned on fuel pumps. On base leg, he stated that he pulled throttle back to 14 inches, and lowered the flaps one more notch. After touching down and lowering the nose, he stated that he saw that the aircraft was not slowing down. He then applied brakes. At the end of the runway, since he was still going too fast, he decided to veer to the right to avoid hitting a fence. Pilot stated that being in the dark and concentrating on lining up the center line on the runway and getting the proper glide slope, he did not push the prop control all the way in.
