From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) The flight operating under CFR 14 part 91, VFR flight following with Kansas city center, originated from conroe Texas, and was enroute to st. joseph MO. At 7:55 pm local time, at 6500 feet, and with a ground speed of 175 knots approximately 16 miles south west of Pittsburg KS, the pilot stated the aircraft began to vibrate. A quick check of the gauges indicated the rear engine was running at a very high RPM. Attempts to control the RPM with the propeller control lever failed, and the pilot then shut the engine down by mixture control. The pilot then declared an emergency, and an uneventful landing was made at the Atkinson Municipal Airport in Pittsburg KS. Weather was not a factor, there were no injuries to the four occupants on board, but the rear engine cowling received some damage as the rear engine propeller had departed the aircraft.

As the FAA filed it
