From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Pilot stated that he had completed extensive ground runs on this aircraft but this was the first flight for him in this aircraft. The pilot stated that upon take off, at about 500 feet AGL, the engine began to lose power and he could not recover the engine power. He said he was aware of the flight characteristics of this aircraft and would not have attempted to return to the airfield. The pilot stated he located an area ahead of him to perform an emergency landing. Upon landing in an unimproved area, the nose gear collapsed causing the propeller to strike the ground.
