What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
(-23) According to miller flying service mechanic (dewayne), the nose gear has a spiral snap ring inside the strut which is the stop for the gear strut extension. Dewayne indicated that the snap ring failed causing the nose gear strut to fully extend. This prevented the nose gear scissors from operating normally causing the steering to be hypersensitive, especially at high speeds. The aircraft departed the runway. The only damage was to a flap track that was struck by a rock. No other damage to aircraft. No injuries. Contacted the pilot who confirmed the above information.
