From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Private pilot beardsley was practicing soft field take off and landing with his instructor in preparation for his commercial flight check. Pilot beardsley raised the landing gear handle to the up position before the airplane became airborne and the nose wheel retracted causing the airplane to skid on its nose. The propeller cowling and nose gear doors were damaged. Teh Colorado northwest community college flight department issued a memo dated 01-23-02 which states: "while training in the retractable gear airplane, the instructor will place his/her hand over the gear handle to prevent the student from raising the gear handle, and maintain control of the gear handle until the airplane is safely airborne and positive rate-of-climb has been established. This procedure should prevent this incident occurring in the future.
