From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Pilot stated that after takeoff he climbed to 1500 feet. Then the engine started to miss a couple of times. He then turned toward the airport, as he completed a 180 degree turn, the engine quit. He attempted a restart, but the engine would not start. The pilot stated that he could not make the airfield so he landed in a field. The field had 3 feet of standing rye grass which entangled around the landing gear and caused it to flip over. The aircraft received minor damage. No injuries.
