From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) On landing approach for runway 24R at Crystal Airport Crystal tower ATCT noticed that N976SB'S landing gear was in up position and called for a go around. Mr. Walonick added power, started to climb then veered left, stalled, impacted the ground in a flat attitude and collided with N853D shearing the tail from the cherokee just aft of the rear bulkhead. (.19) on may 10, 2002, at 1315 central daylight time, a Mooney M20F, N976SB, owned and piloted by a private instrument rated pilot, sustained substantial damage when the pilot contacted the ground and another aircraft during a go-around. The aircraft went off to the left side of the runway 24R (2499' x 75') striking the tail of a parked cherokee at the Minneapolis Crystal Airport (mic) in Minneapolis, Minnesota. A go-around was attempted because the landing gear was not extended. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed at the time of the accident. The personal flight was operating under the provisions of 14 CFR part 91 on an instrument flight rules (IFR) flight plan. There were no injuries reported by the passenger and the pilot reported minor injuries. Mooney N976SB had departed evansville, Indiana (evv) at 12 00 central daylight time.
