From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Appears as the fuel pressure indicator line from the carburetor to gauge broke (flexible line) where it exits the carb. Raw fuel spewed from the pressure float bowl on the hot engine and ignited. Fire burnt through the fuselage skin beneath the pilots feet/rudder pedals allowing flames to enter the cockpit. The pilot turned off the fuel supply and extinguished the flames with a dry chemical extinguisher he had on board. The engine quit running and the pilot executed a dead stick landing in the desert near the end of the runway and rolled up on the runway and was towed to the hanger.
