From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Student pilot was doing soft field takeoff and began too steep of a climb, his airspeed declined to 40 knots and the flight instructor took the aircraft, dropped the nose to prevent a departure stall. The left main landing gear collided with the tree tops and the aircraft pitched 90 degrees nose down between the trees. An inspection of the aircraft and engine found no discrepancies which would have contributed to the accident. The calculated max gross takeoff weight by the flight instructor was 1582 lbs. With a max gross takeoff weight of 1600 lbs. A temp of 92 degrees and fuel of 22 gallons.
