From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) On 06/15/2002 while preparing to depart on a personal flight, the appropriately rated pilot experienced a weak battery. The aircraft was started with external power and in the process backfired once. The PIC departed and after a short time smelled smoke fumes in the cabin. A short time later a total electrical failure was experienced. The PIC called ATC on a handheld radio and returned to the airport of departure and landed without incident. Both pilot and passenger deplaned without injury. This incident is closed with this report.
