From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Student flared for landing too high. Instructor took over controls, attempted to recover, lost control, hit parked aircraft, and impacted in gully adjacent to parked aircraft. (.19) on October 9, 2002, about 1630 central daylight time, a Piper PA-28R-200, N22DB, registered to and operated by an individual, impacted with a parked airplane at the Cullman airport, Cullman, Alabama. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed at the time and no flight plan was filed for the 14 CFR part 91 instructional flight. The airplane was substantially damaged. The commercial-rated pilot-in-command/certified flight instructor (CFI), private-rated pilot and one passenger reported minor injuries. The flight departed the same airport at an unknown time. During a touch-and-go landing with the student at the controls, the airplane touched down hard on runway 02, skidded, departed the runway, struck a parked airplane with the left wing, and went down into a gully. The CFI said after touchdown he took control of the airplane, added power to the engine, but could not maintain control of the airplane.
