From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) On November 27, 2002, N9190U, team 1400Z, an amateur-built aircraft built by clyde k carrier crashed while attempting to make an emergency landing into a open agricultural field near the town of Woodland, CA. The pilot clyde k. carrier reported he lost power and elected to make a emergency landing into the field. Pilot reported as he was reducing the excessive airspeed close to the ground he noticed a wide and deep irrigation ditch in his path. He stated he tried to stall the aircraft before he reached the ditch. The aircraft impacted the ground short of the ditch and rolled inverted. The pilot received major injuries to both legs. Pilot records indicated he did not have an solo endorsement on his student pilot certificate and had only 8.8 hours of instruction by a certified flight instructor. His pilot logbook shown he had received over 30 hours of instruction in ultralight aircraft by a ultralight instructor.
