From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Federal express flight 3859, Airbus A-300 N676FE made an unscheduled landing at Oakland international airport. At approximately 600' AGL during takeoff, the captain smelled smoke. Subsequently, the main cargo deck right & left mid 2 smoke detector lights illuminated. While the crew began emergency checklist procedure for smoke indications, both indications light extinguished. On final approach back to Oakland airport, both the left & right mid 2 lights illuminated again. After landing, the left mid 1 and right mid 1 lights also illuminated. When the aircraft came to a complete stop, the crew followed the emergency evacuation checklist procedure. Their actions included activating the fire bottles for both engines and the APU. The R-1 evacuation slide was deployed for emergency egress, but the slide failed to inflate.
