From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Aircraft was in cruise flight at FL100 for two hours when pilot heard a loud clacking sound seemingly from behind the instrument panel. The load meter was pegged at maximum charging rate and avionics were temporarily lost. Pilot though he may have smelled something burning, although later he wasn't sure. Pilot immediately minimized electrical load and activated one VHF com radio and declared an emergency. He was instructed to land at avp, which occurred at 2056Z. Aircraft was enroute from lebanon, NH to gaithersburg, MD. Mechanics have not been able to duplicate this anomaly. An m or d will be submitted if and when maintenance is able to isolate the problem.
