From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Student and instructor were on a training flight, on may 25, 2003, when the left main landing gear wheel and shock strut piston assembly departed from the aircraft. The flight originated at approximately 2040, EST, from the Naples Municipal Airport (apf) and proceeded to marco island airport (myk), for multiple touch and goes. After 4 or 5 of the touch and go's they returned to the Naples airport to complete more touch and go's prior to ending the flight. At rotation, during the third touch and go, the instructor noticed what he felt was, "a shimmy from the undercarriage." The instructor took control and requested clearance for a full stop landing. While on downwind he heard knocking noises and thought they were from an open baggage door or something of that nature. During the landing, as the aircraft slowed, the aircraft tipped to the left and departed the left side of runway 5. Emergency vehicles responded. No injuries to parties involved. After landing inspection revealed the left main landing gear wheel assembly, the upper and lower torque links, the brake line and shock strut piston assembly were missing.
