From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Pilot and 7 passengers departed Kodiak municipal airport enroute to old harbor, Alaska. Weather conditions were marginal and pilot had to follow the coast. 25 miles south east of Kodiak is a 875MSL (625AGL) loran tower manned by the coast guard. Pilot encountered IMC conditions in the vicinity of the tower and kept getting lower in an attempt to get through by following his GPS. He failed to see the tower guy wires until just before impact. The prop cut the wire which hit the cowling and fuselage plus put a large gouge in the prop. Pilot continued to old harbor where the passengers were discharged, and after inspecting the aircraft flew back to Kodiak without obtaining a ferry permit or reporting the incident until he was at Kodiak. Pilot was administered a drug test which was positive. He admitted to having used marijuana the previous evening. The coast guard reported the guy was cut at approximately 250 ft MSL (150-184 ft. AGL).
