From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Pilot stated that he took off in IFR from cak to fxe. He cancelled inst flight around charlotte, NC. About 70 miles from fxe he switched fuel tanks and noticed the right tank was very low. He realized that he was running out of fuel and tried to make it to tailwinds airpark (private arpt). He was unsuccessful and crashed in an orange grove nearby. (-23 amendment) N876RD was conducting a part 91 flight from akron-canton, oh to ft. lauderdale, FL. Approaching west palm beach, Florida the pilot contacted palm beach approach control and advised them he was low on fuel, subsequently fuel exhaustion caused both engines to fail. The pilot made an emergency landing in an orange grove located in Jupiter, FL. The pilot and one passenger sustained minor injuries; the Piper (PA-31-310) navajo received substantial damage as a result of the accident.
