From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) The pilot in command last valid medical certificate expired in 1988. According to his verbal statement, he has not acted as pilot in command since 1988. This was the first flight of an experimental amateur-built aircraft. The pilot attempted a takeoff on rwy 13 with an estimated tailwind of 14+ knots at 250-260 degrees. Witnesses reported that the aircraft gained approximately 20-25' of altitude with a very low airspeed, at which point the right wing appeared to stall and the aircraft impacted the runway. The aircraft departed the runway, coming to rest in an upright position on the south side of runway 13. A small grass fire was ignited. The aircraft was substantially damaged from the ground impact and subsequent fire.
