From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) During a commercial multiengine practical test including instrument, the DPE instructed the applicant, Mr. Han, to make a full stop landing at Stockton airport (sck). After landing on 29L, they taxied to the fuel island, and shut down the engines. After approximately 10 minutes, Mr. Han attempted to start the left engine with no success. Thinking the engine may still be hot, he attempted a hot start procedure with no success. To conserve battery power, he started the right engine. He let the left engine set, with throttle wide open, for approx. 5 minutes and then attempted to start the left engine using normal start procedures and at that point, noticed smoke emanating from under the top cowl. Stockton ground control was contacted, a fire truck was dispatched and extinguished the fire with foam. privacy data omitted
