From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) 11/6/03 Approximately 2145 local time. The VFR flight from linden municipal airport, linden NJ (ldj), to Montauk Airport, Montauk point, NY (mtp) was uneventful. Upon arrival at mtp, the pilot was unable to turn on the pilot controlled runway lights. The pilot stated that the lights around the wind sock and wind tee were on. The pilot made a low pass over the airport, then turned downwind for a landing on runway 24. The pilot stated that he touched down, near "the numbers" at close to the stall speed. He further stated that as the aircraft touched down, several deer ran, from left to right, in front of the aircraft. He stated that he veered left to avoid the deer and added full power in an attempt to go-around. The pilot stated that as the aircraft lifted off, he saw trees, which were to the left of the runway, directly in front of him. The pilot stated that he attempted to turn right but was unable to avoid the trees. The aircraft passed through the trees, coming to rest beyond them. The pilot was counseled regarding options to divert to an alternate airport. No enforcement action recommended. The pilot was current and qualified and the aircraft was airworthy at the time of the accident.
