From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

(-23) On 11/07/03 at 1515 local time N102RC, an amateur built RV-6A crashed in the santa clara river bottom 1 mile east of Saticoy CA killing the pilot russ cathaway. Investigation revealed that the aircraft fuel tanks had very little if any fuel in them. Further investigation revealed that the engine fuel inlet line to the carburetor had been left loose causing fuel to be pumped into the engine compartment. This ultimately led to fuel exhaustion and the subsequent emergency landing attempt in the river bottom. privacy data omitted
